Blue Sky Energy Solutions Specialists in installation of Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Blue Sky Energy Solutions are specialists in the installation of Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR). We are based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and also cover the surrounding counties of Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire. We have recently completed projects in Milton Keynes, Berkhamsted, St Albans, Watford, Luton, Hemel Hempstead, Aylesbury and Northampton as well as further afield in North London, West London and across the South East.
MVHR is an increasingly popular whole house ventilation system that both supplies and extracts air throughout a property. It offers a balanced low energy ventilation solution for properties and re-uses up to 95% of the heat that would have otherwise been lost. It is ideal for new builds but can also be fitted on property refurbishments.
How does MVHR work?
MVHR is a system which comprises a Heat Recovery unit and a network of ducting which is connected to each room. Based from a single unit, it works by continuously extracting air from the damp rooms around the house and at the same time drawing in fresh air from outside.
A heat exchanger is then used to extract the heat from the stale air (up to 95% of the heat can be recovered that would normally be lost) and is re-used to temper the filtered supply of air for the habitable rooms such as living rooms and bedrooms. The MVHR system is designed to run on a continuous trickle but can be boosted when a higher level of ventilation is required.
During the summer months a by-pass function can be used to maintain an ideal climate in the home. The ventilation process continues to feed the home with fresh, filtered air, however the heat recovery process is intermittently switched off so the home does not get too hot.
Why use MVHR?
MVHR can significantly improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home as well as the health of the occupants.
The MVHR will recover heat that would normally be lost through ventilation saving your home a significant amount of money on your heating bills.
A normal family of 4 can produce 18 litres of moisture per day just by breathing and cooking. Without sufficient ventilation this moisture will condense on a cold surface and form water droplets. This can cause big problems with mould growth and even structural issues. The MVHR system will extract the moisture from rooms while retaining the heat to be recycled back into the house.
If you have a south facing home or large areas of glass in your property, it may be prone to overheating in the summer months. With the MVHR's ability to by-pass the heat recovery process, you will be getting cooler fresh air pumped into your home, keeping it at a comfortable temperature without the need to open windows.
A Healthier Home
The filters in the MVHR system are so fine that they collect minute particles of pollen helping allergy sufferers in the summer months. Fitting an MVHR system can help asthma sufferers too as it lowers relative humidity in the home, limiting dust mite numbers and therefore the airborne allergens they produce. Deaths from asthma in the UK are around 1,500 per year, of which around 60% have been attributed to dust mite allergy.
